Depending on what time zone you’re in (and when you open this email), it’s either the evening before or the first day of Roll Film Week. Welcome to the party!
#RollFilmWeek runs from Monday, July 23 through Friday, July 27.
Near the end of each day, we’ll select some photos to feature on the @rollfilmweek account. Be sure to use the #rollfilmweek hashtag on your photos — that’s where we look for images to spotlight. There’s no limit on the number of photos you can post, but we recommend two or three per day.
Please consider including camera and film information in your caption or hashtags so we can be certain that your posts are authentic analog photos.
In the Flickr group, you’re the curator. Each day, we’ll post a new discussion and ask you to share your favorites. You can also post other topics to start a conversation with other members of the group.
The pool will open at 12:01 a.m. EDT (9:01 p.m. PDT, 5:01 a.m. BST), and unlike Instagram, posting is limited to two photos per day.
Stickers are coming soon!
If you’d like to receive a Roll Film Week sticker in the mail, don’t forget to enter your address in our Google form. It’s free, and we’ll send it anywhere in the world. (So far, people in eight different countries have signed up for stickers.)
About this newsletter
We’re using Substack to manage our list and send emails. There will always be a free version of this newsletter, but Substack offers a paid subscription option if we want to expand in the future. (We have no plans to do that right now.) Comments and discussions are only available for paid subscription communities, but you can hit the “like” button if you feel like it.

If you reply to this email, you’ll reach me — Jessica Hibbard. I started Roll Film Week last year with a group of friends and fellow photographers, and I’m taking responsibility for the email newsletter and Instagram account.
Roll Film Week is a group effort. Rachel James designed the logo and our forthcoming stickers. Meredith Wilson, Jenna Gersbach-King, Ina Echternach, Jes Lee, and Hilary Clarke help us run the Flickr group. Many others support and promote this community. Please take some time this week to look at the amazing work posted to the Instagram hashtag and Flickr group — it’s a great way to connect with other photographers.
Keep on rolling!
